New York Times: Even Those Cleared of Crimes Can Stay on F.B.I.’s Watch List

CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–September 29, 2011.  Read the New York Times article about the FBI’s protocols and utilization of the government’s terrorist watch list. Information about how the FBI and police handle and react to people on the list was recently released following a FOIA request submitted by the Electronic Privacy Information Center.

Chris Calabrese, a counsel with the American Civil Liberties Union, called the watch list system a “Star Chamber” — “a secret determination, that you have no input into, that you are a terrorist. Once that determination is made, it can ripple through your entire life and you have no way to challenge it.”
