Washington, DC–(ENEWSPF)–March 15, 2016. Today, the Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing on an unconstitutional 20-week abortion ban and other plans to curtail Americans’ constitutional right to access abortion. This hearing comes days after Republican members of the Judiciary Committee reaffirmed their refusal to hold hearings or vote on any Supreme Court nominee.
NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue released the following statement in advance of the hearing:
“I’ve got three words for Senator Grassley and the GOP members of this committee: do your job. In their true obstructionist fashion, these senators would rather stand in the way of a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions than spend time or energy doing the job they were elected to do, like approving a Supreme Court nominee. Even though 7 in 10 Americans already support legal abortion – the issue under attack in today’s hearing – Republicans have decided to focus their energy on passing an abortion ban we already know is unconstitutional. No other way to put it, this hearing is a waste of time.”
