Friends of the Earth: House Prepares Frontal Assault Against EPA, Interior

WASHINGTON, D.C. —(ENEWSPF)—June 9, 2015. The House Interior, Environment and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee proposed steep cuts to key environmental programs within the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of the Interior. The proposal, which moves next to the full Appropriations Committee, amounts to a $246 million cut from the committee’s current funding allocation.

Friends of the Earth Climate and Energy Campaigner Lukas Ross issued the following statement in response:

This is a draconian proposal. Using funding levels as their weapon of choice, the House Republican Leadership is launching a frontal assault against our bedrock environmental protections.

Agencies like the EPA are a crucial line of defense between polluters and our air and water. Congress should give these agencies the support they deserve instead of treating them as props in political theatre.
