CAIR Calls on RNC to Repudiate Ben Carson’s Statement on Faith-Based Surveillance

BenCarsonabcWASHINGTON, D.C.–(ENEWSPF)–September 29, 2015 – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, yesterday called on the Republican National Committee (RNC) to repudiate GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson’s stated willingness to consider religion as probable cause for searches.

Appearing Sunday on ABC’s “This Week,” Carson said he “would certainly be willing to listen to somebody” argue that the religion of Middle Eastern refugees should be considered probable cause for searches or emails or cell phone calls.

“Ben Carson has demonstrated once again that, as president, he would not abide by the Constitution,” said CAIR Government Affairs Manager Robert McCaw. “Just as the Constitution prohibits a religious test for public office, it also requires that searches be carried out based on probable cause of actual wrongdoing, not based on the faith of the individual subject to the search.”

Last week, CAIR announced the renewal of its “Share the Quran” campaign in response to Carson’s false claim that Islam is “inconsistent” with the Constitution and his bigoted belief that a Muslim should not be elected president.
