Major General (Ret.) Paul Eaton on Reports of Trump Administration’s Return to Torture

WASHINGTON, DC –(ENEWSPF)–January 25, 2017. In response to news that the Trump administration is looking to restore secret interrogation “black sites” and torture of detainees, retired Major General Paul D. Eaton, senior adviser to VoteVets, put out the following statement:

“In recent weeks, it seemed that, perhaps, General Mattis, a man I served with in Iraq and grew to respect deeply, had adequately explained to President-elect Donald Trump that torture does not work, and only serves to help our enemies recruit more terrorists to endanger America and our troops.  It is disheartening to see that General Mattis has apparently lost that battle, to pro-torture voices within the administration.

“I sincerely hope that General Mattis can still stop President Trump from going down this path.  If he cannot, I trust General Mattis will seriously consider resigning in protest, in order to speak out against this action that will undoubtedly put our men and women in uniform in greater danger.  It is that important.”
