Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth Announces 2016 Military Service Academy Appointments


Schaumburg, IL–(ENEWSPF)–June 17, 2016.  Today, Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth (IL-08) announced three Eighth District students will attend Military Service Academies this fall after she recommended them for consideration. Students applying to the service academies are required to have a Congressional nomination for a complete application.

“I’m so proud of these Eighth District students who will be attending Military Service Academies in the fall,” said Congresswoman Duckworth. “The rigorous nomination process demands outstanding test scores, a high GPA and a commitment to community service.  These three students have all demonstrated their dedication and I applaud their desire to serve our country.”

The students attending service academies in the fall from Illinois’ Eighth Congressional District are:

  • Patrick Michael Burns (Barrington High School) from South Barrington: West Point
  • Gannon Cottone (Albion College) from Elgin: Merchant Marine Academy
  • Adam Doruff (Elk Grove High School) from Elk Grove Village: Naval Academy
