Two Bailiffs and Gunman Killed in Berrien County, Michigan Courthouse


MICHIGAN—(ENEWSPF)—July 11, 2016.  Two bailiffs were killed this afternoon following a shooting by an inmate at the Berrien County Courthouse in St. Joseph, Michigan. The shooter who was on his way to jail, took a gun from a deputy and started opening fire.

Berrien County Sheriff Paul Bailey confirmed that two court bailiffs were killed and the suspect, an unidentified man, was shot and killed by police.  According to Sheriff Bailey, the gunman also shot “a deputy sheriff who is at the hospital right now being treated in an emergency room” at Lakeland Regional Hospital.  Several civilians were also taken to the hospital and are “in stable condition.”

The Berrien County Sheriff’s department is investigating the shootings, along with the St. Joseph’s Police Department and Michigan State Police.

St. Joseph, Michigan is located on the shores of Lake Michigan approximately 90 miles from Chicago.
