New Effort Will Reach Nearly 300,000 Voters Before Election Day

WASHINGTON, D.C. -(ENEWSPF)–October 27, 2016. – Today, Sierra Club Independent Action and For Our Future launched a joint campaign to mobilize African-American voters in Pennsylvania in the final week leading up to election day. The six-figure campaign will focus on reaching Philadelphia area voters with messages supporting Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and Senate candidate Katie McGinty as the best choices this election on critical issues like climate change and criminal justice reform.

“African-Americans are disproportionately affected by pollution and the climate crisis, and our votes are among the most important tools we have to fight back and protect our communities,” said Khalid Pitts, National Political Director for the Sierra Club. “Our clean air, clean water, and the climate are on the ballot this election, and our support of this effort is part of the Sierra Club Independent Action’s commitment to make sure every community has the chance to have their say on November 8th”

“Through our canvassing operation and great partnerships like this one with Sierra Club, we are reminding African American voters in Philadelphia of the power that comes from voting as well as providing information on how, where, and when to vote,” said Amanda Brown, For Our Future’s Campaign Director. “From climate change, to criminal justice reform, to ending mass incarceration, we are making clear that voting is critical to protecting President Obama’s legacy and shaping the future.”

The targeted campaign effort will reach Philadelphia area voters starting October 28 through election day. In addition to the candidate information, the effort will reach nearly 300,000 voters with information on how to locate polling places and make a plan to vote.
