Readout of Deputy Secretary Carter’s Meetings with Senior Israeli Security Officials, July 22, 2013


Washington, DC–(ENEWSPF)–July 22, 2013.  Pentagon Press Secretary George Little provided the following readout:

Deputy Secretary of Defense Ashton B. Carter visited Israel this week where he met with senior security officials to reaffirm the U.S. commitment to the unprecedented security cooperation between the United States and Israel, and to discuss a range of issues of mutual importance, including Syria and Iran.  This was Dr. Carter’s first trip to Israel as Deputy Secretary of Defense.

While in Israel, Deputy Secretary Carter met with senior Israeli officials, including Defense Minister Moshe “Boogie” Ya’alon, National Security Advisor, Maj. Gen. (ret.) Yaakov Amidror, and other senior officials.  Deputy Secretary Carter was hosted by the Director General of the Ministry of Defense, Maj. Gen. (ret.) Udi Shani.

They reaffirmed that the U.S.-Israel defense relationship has never been stronger and agreed to continue to consult closely on shared security interests.
