Dallas, TX—(ENEWSPF)–Oct. 30, 2011 Members of OccupyDallas will be meeting at Pioneer Plaza Sunday at 5:45 p.m. to hold a candlelight vigil for Scott Olsen, the OccupyOakland protester who was shot in the face by a less-than-lethal bullet fired by police on Oct. 25.
The show of excessive force by police in Oakland was mirrored by the police in Denver on Saturday when heavily armored police moved in with tear gas and fired rubber bullets at protesters. Brutal tactics have been employed to break up peaceful protests now in several cities across the United States. On Oct. 25, just after 5:00 a.m., over 500 police officers including the Oakland Police and officers from sixteen other jurisdictions attacked peaceful protesters at the OccupyOakland camp. The protesters were attacked by the police, who fired concussion grenades, tear gas, and shot protesters with bean bag canisters and rubber bullets.
Olsen, a 24 year-old Iraq War veteran, and member of Iraq War Veterans Against the War, was shot in the head by the police and seriously injured. He was knocked out and taken to the hospital in critical condition. He has since woken up, but cannot talk due to the brain injury he sustained.

The OccupyDallas movement began Thursday, Oct 6 with a march from Pike Park to the Federal Reserve building. Over 1,000 people gathered to protest corporate greed and money influencing the government. The movement currently has more than 120 members occupying City Hall Park in downtown, with hundreds more joining in daily for marches to various corporations and banks throughout the city. The movement stands in solidarity with similar Occupy movements happening across the nation and the world, including the original Occupy Wall Street protest that featured tens of thousands of marchers and continues to grow.
