House Democrats Call for Robust Funding of Services Essential to Nation’s Older Americans


WASHINGTON –(ENEWSPF)–February 1, 2016.   Today, Ranking Member Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (VA-03), Ranking Member of the Committee on Education and the Workforce, Representative Rubén Hinojosa (TX-15), Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Training, Representative Suzanne Bonamici (OR-1), Member of the Committee on Education and the Workforce, and Representatives Doris Matsui (CA-6) and Janice Schakowsky (IL-9), Co-Chairs of the Seniors Task Force, urged the Obama Administration to fully fund Older American Act Programs.

The Older Americans Act (OAA), originally passed in 1965, is the primary legislation that covers social and nutrition services for older persons and their caregivers. From meal delivery to respite care, OAA supports a wide range of social services and programs from both older individuals and their families, while strengthening communities by improving socialization and independence for seniors.
