Ann Romney Refuses to Answer Questions on Gay Marriage or Employer-Provided Contraception During Iowa Interview

IOWA—(ENEWSPF)—September 7, 2012.  Ann Romney, wife of GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney, refused to answer questions today about gay marriage or employer-provided contraception during an interview with David Nelson of KWQC-TV, an NBC affiliate.

During the interview, Nelson asked Mrs. Romney if she believed that a lesbian mother should be allowed to marry her partner.   Romney responded by saying, “You know, I’m not going to talk about the specific issues,” adding that “hot-button issues” only distract from the economy.  Same-sex marriage is legal in Iowa.

When Nelson then asked whether employers should be required to provide health insurance that covers birth control, Mrs. Romney declined to answer. “Again, you’re asking me questions that are not about what this election is going to be about. This election is going to be about the economy and jobs,” said Romney.

The interview was scheduled to air Friday night on KWQC-TV. A transcript of the segment is posted on the station’s website at:
