EPA Report Shows Automakers Exceeding Historic Vehicle Standards

WASHINGTON, D.C. –(ENEWSPF)–March 26, 2015.  Today the Environmental Protection Agency released a report detailing automaker compliance with standards to reduce greenhouse gas pollution from passenger vehicles. These historic standards will roughly double the efficiency of our passenger vehicles to achieve an average standard of 54.5 mpg by 2025. The EPA report finds that automakers are not only meeting these standards, but exceeding them by a substantial margin.

In response, Jesse Prentice-Dunn, Representative of Sierra Club’s Beyond Oil Campaign, released the following statement:

“Today’s report shows that the historic vehicle standards enacted by the Obama administration are working. Automakers are innovating, selling cars and trucks that are more efficient than ever before, saving consumers money at the pump and cutting carbon pollution.

“Going forward, it is clear that automakers can continue to meet and exceed these standards by putting advanced technologies to work and making cars that use less gas or no gas at all, which is good news for both our wallets and our climate.”
