Youth Learns Tough Lesson as Garage Burns

Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Police were dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of Rutledge on September 21 to investigate a report of a garage fire. Upon arrival, Officer Naughton observed the detached garage fully engulfed in flames.

According to police, the Park Forest Fire Department was already on the scene.

Police interviewed a juvenile who spoke with police, and then sat down on the front lawn and began to cry, according to police.

After further investigation, the juvenile was transported to the Park Forest Police Station without being handcuffed. The juvenile allegedly told police he had lit a small branch on fire and threw it onto some leaves, accidentally catching the leaves on fire. The fire then spread. The juvenile was arrested and processed on the charge of reckless damage to property.

Upon further review, Detective Commander Green related that no charges would be filed. Commander Green will attempt to enroll the juvenile in a Juvenile Fire Starter School offered by the Park Forest Fire Department.
