Village Board Approves Downtown Repairs, Appointments

Commission Members, Board Liaisons Appointed

Park Forest, IL—(ENEWSPF)— The Park Forest Village Board approved several new appointments and two emergency repairs on Monday June 11.

The board unanimously approved repairs to a downtown building for a basement leak and for a replacement motor and pump at well # 4.

Trustees were also given appointments for committees including the Commission for Human Relations, the Environment Commission, and advisory groups.

The proposed budget for all corporate purposes of Park Forest for the fiscal year also passed first reading without discussion. A public hearing for the budget is scheduled for 8 p.m. at the Village Hall on June 18.

Resident Joyce Hempen raised concerns regarding the number of pot holes in the streets and the absence of a grocery store in the village after the closing of Sterk’s, 138 South Orchard Drive.

Mayor John Ostenburg said the previous store’s property is owned by a private realtor and the location never reached expectation.

“A lot of money went into the store, and the sales projection was never what was expected,” Ostenburg said. “Any potential store will look at the previous sales.”

Ostenburg also proclaimed June 2007 to be Black Music Month in Park Forest. All trustees were in attendance.
