Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle Calls for Resignation of Women’s Commission Member Sharon Brannigan

Chicago, IL-(ENEWSPF)- Cook County Board President called for the resignation of Woman’s Commission Member Sharon Brannigan in the wake of revelations about a public Facebook post Brannigan made in January 2015.

Preckwinkle said, “I was made aware late yesterday of social media posts by Sharon Brannigan, a member of our Cook County Commission on Women’s Issues. If these posts accurately reflect her views on diversity and inclusion, I believe she should step down from the Commission. Such viewpoints certainly do not reflect our values nor, in my opinion, the kind of representation we want on the Commission. Ms. Brannigan is the appointee of Commissioner Sean Morrison. I ask that Commissioner Morrison seek Ms. Brannigan’s immediate resignation.”

Ms. Brannigan reportedly made disparaging remarks about then-President Barack Obama, his supporters, and Muslims, in part:

In a 2015 post promoting the Clint Eastwood movie “American Sniper,” she details her aversion to movies made by “very wealthy liberals” who support Democrats like “Barack Hussein Obama,” bemoans the increase in Muslim immigrants in the area and criticizes U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski, whom she ran against in 2014, for not doing more to restrict immigration from the Middle East.

“In the 3rd district here in Illinois, our demographics include 25% Muslims of which very few integrate within the communities keeping themselves and their activities hidden from the general population,” Brannigan wrote. “Everywhere you turn, from Orland Park to Bridgeview, those numbers are increasing in leaps and bounds. We are allowing these people whether they have peaceful intentions or not into our country without question.

“What has Dan Lipinski done to stem the flow of Middle Eastern immigration into our beloved United States while we are at war with Islamic extremists?” she continued. “Nothing.”
