Blue Island, IL-(ENEWSPF)- Simeon scored with less than two seconds remaining Wednesday, escaping with a 48-46 victory over Marian Catholic in the Eisenhower IHSA 4A Sectional semifinals.
Joe Green paced three Spartans in double figures with 16 points and eight rebounds, while Ahron Ulis chipped in 15 points and seven assists. Chris White added 13 points and 10 rebounds, Breion Hill pulled down seven rebounds and Elijah Jones dished out three assists.
The Spartans (27-5) had battled back from a 12-point first-half deficit to take a couple fourth-quarter leads. Marian was just 5-for-10 from the foul line, including a pair of critical misses in the final minute.
Marian, which set the third highest win total in school history, has been eliminated from IHSA state competition three of the last four years.
Tommy Ciscato and John Paul Piattioni both prevailed in the tie-breaker to advance to the sectional level of the Three-Point Competition.
