There is a moment of levity about 11 minutes into the video when a mobile phone with a rather haunting ring goes off.

The mayors, managers and board members present heard reports from the organization’s legislative, transportation, public works, public safety, economic development and housing committees. Joe Martin, Executive Director of Diversity, Inc. also gave an update.

Located south of the City of Chicago, the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Assocation (SSMMA) is an intergovernmental agency providing technical assistance and joint services to 42 municipalities representing a population over 650,000 in Cook and Will Counties. The organization’s Web site says SSMMA members work cooperatively on transportation, legislation, land use, economic development, recycling, purchasing, stormwater and open space planning, infastructure, human resources, public safety and housing issues.

Park Forest Mayor John Ostenburg and Trustees Mae Brandon, Gary Kopycinski, Robert McCray, and Georgia O’Neill were in attendance.
