WASHINGTON –(ENEWSPF)–September 11, 2014.  U.S. Senator Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) today released the following statement marking the 13th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and urging unity to protect Americans from the threat posed by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS):

“As we remember those who died in the 9/11 terror attacks 13 years ago, we honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice or put themselves in harm’s way to protect our Nation, and prepare ourselves for difficult challenges that lie ahead. ISIS now controls more money and fighters than al-Qaeda did on 9/11. With a military-style organization that’s eager to behead innocent Americans, ISIS has more than $2 billion in assets, and as many as 30,000 fighters in Iraq and 50,000 in Syria, including 1,100 Westerners who could fly to the United States without a visa today. Only time will tell if the President has an effective strategy, but now is the time to unite to unconditionally protect Americans at home and abroad.”
