WASHINGTON –(ENEWSPF)–June 14, 2016. U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) today announced $4,852,151 in federal funding for upgrades to small airports in Illinois. The grants were awarded through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration and will help improve safety and efficiency at DuPage Airport, Greater Kankakee Airport, and Lewis University Airport. Senator Durbin has worked to increase funding for critical transportation and infrastructure grant programs that benefit Illinois.
“Investing in our small airports is key for Illinois’ future economic well-being. This funding will help pay for much-needed upgrades, create jobs, and bring business to our state. I will continue working to ensure Illinois communities have access to programs and funds that drive economic growth and make air travel safer and more efficient.”
Under today’s announcement, the following airports will receive funding for improvements:
- DuPage Airport (West Chicago, IL): $1,033,151 to construct north and west service roads;
- Greater Kankakee Airport (Kankakee, IL): $1,200,000 for Phase 1 of construction of a perimeter fence;
- Lewis University Airport (Romeoville, IL): $2,619,000 for improvements to runway safety area.
