University of Saint Mary Bids Farewell to Class of 2016 at Commencement – Park Forest Resident Among Graduates


LEAVENWORTH, Kansas—(ENEWSPF)–May 24, 2016 – The University of Saint Mary marked the close of another academic year and the completion of this leg of the class of 2016’s educational journey at USM’s Commencement ceremony Saturday, May 7, in McGilley Field House on the university’s main Leavenworth campus, 4100 South 4th Street.

The 2016 Commencement ceremony honored the university’s 414 graduates-a group composed of 221 undergraduate degree recipients, 154 master’s degree recipients, and 39 doctoral degree recipients. This year’s graduates hailed from Kansas to California, from England to Kenya. They came from a wide variety of backgrounds and are headed toward a n equally wide range of bright futures. In reaching their God-given potential, USM’s graduates overcame obstacles of all kinds.

Orlando Peterson, of Park Forest, IL earned Bachelor of Science degree.

During the ceremony, reflections were provided by student speakers Margaret Stewart, an education major from Norman, Okla., who graduated summa cum laude and with All-University honors; Candace Scillieri, of Leavenworth, Kan., who earned her Master of Arts in Elementary Education; and Eric Fjeldheim, of Kansas City, Kan., who earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy.

As is tradition at Saint Mary, the Commencement ceremony was preceded by a traditional Baccalaureate Mass in Annunciation Chapel.
