University Park, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Rehearsals are under way for “The Wedding Singer,” the 2010 production of the Southland Area Theatre Ensemble (SLATE) at Governors State University. Thirty cast members from 20 communities, mostly in Chicago’s Southland, were chosen following recent auditions.
“We had a large talent pool to choose from and cast a very strong ensemble of actors,” said Director J.R. Rose. “We have locals as well as people from the city and even Evanston. Of particular note, we have some really incredible dancers.”
“The Wedding Singer” will be performed on Saturday, July 31, at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, August 1, at 2 p.m., Friday, August 6 at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, August 7, at 7:30 p.m.
Performances will take place at the Center for Performing Arts at Governors State University.
Based on the 1998 film starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, this musical version follows a jilted wedding singer and a waitress who is engaged to the wrong man as they learn heartfelt lessons and their true feelings about love and marriage. “The Wedding Singer,” on Broadway, was nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
SLATE was established in 2009 as an artistic collaboration between The Center for Performing Arts, local theater educators, and veterans of area community theater companies.
Tickets for “The Wedding Singer” are $21 and $18 for adults, and $19 and $16 for students. Tickets can be purchased on The Center’s website at www.centertickets.net or by calling the box office at (708) 235-2222.
