Terry L. Chambers Joins Prairie State College TRiO Student Support Services

CHICAGO HEIGHTS–(ENEWSPF)–January 28, 2016.  Prairie State College (PSC) recently named Terry L. Chambers director, Student Support Services/TRiO Programs.

In that role, he provides direct oversight and supervision of all activities and collaborative efforts in accordance with the established goals and objectives of the TRiO grant project. He is responsible for program marketing, student recruitment and the application and selection procedures for the projects, as well as staff training, program planning, budget monitoring, record keeping and supervision of all TRiO Student Support Services staff.

Chambers comes to the college from Moraine Valley Community College, where he had served as director of TRiO-Student Support Services Program as well as a member of the adjunct faculty. Prior to that, he had served in several roles in higher education, including admissions counselor for Augustana College, academic counselor for the University of Nebraska at Lincoln’s TRiO-Student Support Services Program, outreach counselor for Purdue University Calumet’s TRiO-Educational Talent Search Program and senior project counselor/career specialist for Chicago State University’s TRiO-Student Support Services Program. He also has worked as area manager/merchandising representative/college coordinator for Miller Brewing Company, marketing consultant for Telemark Communications, and case manager for PSI Services, Inc.

Chamber’s additional TRiO experience includes work as a consultant for Quinsigamond Community College’s TRiO-Student Support Services and Educational Talent Search programs, University of Cincinnati’s TRiO-Student Support Services and Upward Bound, Moraine Valley Community College’s TRiO-Educational Talent Search Program and West Los Angeles Community College’s TRiO-Student Support Services Program.

Chambers has a B.S. in history/political science and an M.S. in guidance and counseling from Tennessee State University in Nashville.

He is a former board member of Safe Communities in Illinois, Mid America Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel (MAEOPP), and Illinois Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel and South Side YMCA; former president of the Illinois Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel; former chairman of the Illinois Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel Scholarship Committee; and former member of MAEOPP Educational Foundation Scholarship Committee.

“Mr. Chambers comes to us with a wealth of experience in TRiO programming, and we are happy to have him join PSC to help our students as they pursue their goals in higher education,” said PSC President Dr. Terri L. Winfree.

TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) at PSC is a support system for qualifying PSC students. Students in the SSS program work directly with an academic advisor to develop a plan for degree completion. Various services are provided to students to increase retention and graduation rates, as well as enhance interpersonal and college study skills.
