Chicago Heights, IL-(ENEWSPF)- Marian Catholic couldn’t stand the prosperity of an early 10-0 lead and 13-point advantage in the second quarter. Even a five-point lead in the second overtime, as the Spartans dropped their ESCC opener at St. Viator on Friday, 70-69.

Nineteen turnovers were the culprit, as Marian fell to 3-3 overall heading into a Sunday 3 p.m. match-up against Orr at Moraine Valley Community College.

Chase Adams had 14 points, six assists and five rebounds for the Spartans, who wasted an outstanding 14-point effort off the bench by Chris White. Sean Taylor added 13 points, including three three-pointers.

Brandon Hurt grabbed five rebounds, while TeeAaron Powell (nine points) and Warren Allen (eight points) both pulled down four boards. Marian had the ball at the end of regulation and the first overtime, but failed to score in its early defense of a co-ESCC title.
