Chicago Heights, IL-(ENEWSPF)- Marian Catholic is taking its men’s basketball team to the Elite Eighth against Metamora at Northern Illinois University Tuesday. The supersectional game will begin at 6:00 p.m.
Ahron Ulis paced three Spartans in double figures Tuesday with 19 points, as Marian Catholic advanced to its third IHSA Elite Eight in school history with a 61-50 victory over Kankakee in the Pontiac IHSA Class 3A Sectional championship.
Marian will take a 24-5 mark into Tuesday’s 6 p.m. contest at Northern Illinois University. Metamora will bring its 18-11 record.
Chris White added 16 points and nine blocked shots for Marian, which has won 10 of 11, while Malik Tidwell finished with 12 points and Josh Smith eight.
Ulis also dished out eight assists, while Alec Dinwiddie (12 rebounds) and White (nine rebounds) led the Spartans to a 30-19 advantage on the boards.
Kankakee pressure and a huge crowd advantage helped whittle a onetime 13-point Marian command to five, but late hoops by Smith and Ulis sealed the deal.
