Rich East Business Professionals of America Scored High In Area Competition

Park Forest, IL-(ENEWSPF)- Picking up where they left off last year, the Rich East High School Business Professionals of America scored high at last week’s PBA sectional competition meet.

Out of the 26 who competed, 14 qualified for the State Tournament, early next year. BPA is a national organization which gives high school students the opportunity to learn solid business and professional skills to help them in college and in the business and professional world. They compete in different events testing their knowledge and skills in four areas; administrative support, financial services, information technology, and management/human resource.  

On Wednesday, December 3rd and Friday, December 5th 26 students from Rich East competed in the Area competition for Business Professionals of America.  They compete in different events testing their knowledge and skills in four areas; administrative support, financial services, information technology, and management/human resource.  Out of the 26 that competed 14 qualified for the State competition being held on February 26th – March 1st at The Double Tree hotel in Oakbrook, IL. 

These Rockets placed high in the competition. The top two qualify for the state tournament:

Sarah Abbott – 1st place in Interview Skills and 1st place in Fundamental Word Processing; Guadalupe Acosta – 2nd place in Broadcast News Production Team and 4th place in Fundamental Wed Design; Karina Davila – 2nd place in Broadcast News Production Team and 2nd place in Fundamental Accounting; Rebeca Dorantes – 2nd place in Small Business Management Team; Connor Elmore – 4th place in Interview Skills and 5th place in Desktop Publishing; Jayme Goldfarb – 2nd place in Broadcast News Production Team and 4th place in Business Meeting; Gabrielle Hernandez – 2nd place in Legal Office Procedures; Anna Kurnat – 2nd place in Small Business Management Team and 4th place in Basic Office Systems & Procedures; Carolina Mendia – 4th place in Desktop Publishing; Airreal Merritt – 5th place in Medical Office Procedures; Darrion Talley – 2nd place in Economic Research Team and 3rd place in Payroll Accounting; Elyse Terrazas – 1st place in Legal Office Procedures and 4th place in Payroll Accounting; Teagan Thompson – 2nd place in Prepared Speech and 1st place in Basic Office Systems & Procedures; Christian Williams – 2nd place in Economic Research Team, 1st place in Financial Math & Analysis, 1st place in Personal Finance Management, 1st place in Administrative Support Concepts, and 2nd place in Management, Marketing, and Human Resource.

“They all just did fantastic against some very tough competition,” said Rich East BPA Coach and Advisor Matt Shank. “I also want to thank the entire Rich East family, for preparing and supporting the student who competed. Without everyone’s support, we would not be as successful!”  Shank also wanted to thank Rich East staff member Joyce Turner for her assistance and volnteering her time in helping get the team to the competition. 

The state meet is scheduled for February 26 to March 1, at The Double Tree hotel in Oakbrook, Ill.
