CHICAGO HEIGHTS—(ENEWSPF)—January 15, 2015. Prairie State College (PSC) Assistant Professor of Nursing Tina Parks recently was named a 2015 Nurse Educator Fellow by the Illinois Board of Higher Education.
The purpose of the Nurse Educator Fellowship Program is to ensure the retention of well-qualified nursing faculty at institutions of higher learning that award degrees in nursing. Participation in the program is open to Illinois institutions of higher learning with a nursing program approved by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation and accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or the Association Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). Nominations must be certified by the institution’s Chief Nursing Administrator. This year, there were 22 recipients of the fellowship.
Parks joined the nursing faculty at PSC in 2010. She received tenure in August 2013. Before coming to teach at PSC, she practiced as an LPN in Columbus, Ohio, providing care to a diverse home bound population. She then practiced as an RN in Chicago, Ill., specializing in geriatrics and medical surgical nursing.
Parks has a bachelor’s degree in communication and pre-nursing from Denison University and a master’s degree in nursing from DePaul University. She currently is enrolled in the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program at Purdue University, where she is a member of the Golden Key Honor Society. She plans to graduate in May 2015.
“Ms. Parks has been a valuable addition to our nursing faculty,” said Vice President of Academic Affairs Marie Hansel. “She is very deserving of this fellowship award. Not only are the PSC students benefiting from her wealth of knowledge, but we are also proud of her many accomplishments inside and outside of the classroom.”
