Prairie State College Hosting ‘Of Ebony Embers: Vignettes of the Harlem Renaissance’ on March 6

Chicago Heights, IL—(ENEWSPF)–Prairie State College (PSC) is hosting “Of Ebony Embers: Vignettes of the Harlem Renaissance,” at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 6, in the Conference Center Auditorium on the PSC main campus, located at 202 S. Halsted St. in Chicago Heights.

The event is a chamber music theatre work conceived and performed by the Core Ensemble. The music trio (cello, piano, and percussion) and solo actor, Jamyl Dobson, explore the lives of poets Langston Hughes, Claude McKay and Countee Cullen – as seen through the eyes of the painter and muralist Aaron Douglas during the Harlem Renaissance.

The performance is supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Pew Charitable Trust, and the Florida Humanities Council.

The Core Ensemble has received national recognition for its efforts to commission new chamber and multi-genre works. They have performed in every region of the United States, the Caribbean, England, Russia, Ukraine, and Australia. In 2000, the Core Ensemble received the Eugene McDermott Award for Excellence in the Arts from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The program is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Susan Solberg, dean of liberal arts, at (708) 709-3758 or [email protected].
