New Girl Scout Troop Forms at Talala School

Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Park Forest has a new Girl Scout Troop at Talala Elementary School.

As part of the South Suburban Forest Trails Association, the new troop is off to a great start. Talala’s parents expressed interest in more after school activities for the students at the school. The Girl Scouts is a perfect fit for many girls in kindergarten through 5th grade at Talala.

The Parents Teachers Organization of Talala has strong roots with business partners in the Park Forest area. The organization added Girl Scouts as one of its many objectives for the upcoming year.

"The thing I received from Girl Scouts more than anything else was a sense of real teamwork and working for the community, helping others, and it was not competitive. I remember working as a group to achieve a goal or to help the community. There was a great sense of accomplishment in that," says Cathy Rigby, Olympic Gymnast, TV Commentator and Girl Scout Alumna.

The Talala troop will consist of Daisies (Grades K-1) and Brownies (Grades 2-3). However, girls who are Junior Scouts (Grades 4-5) can attend meetings at nearby Faith United Protestant Church. The Talala Scouts will meet every other Monday after school from 3:45 pm to 5:00 pm. The group has several trips planned that will focus on science, healthy living and art.

The first meeting is scheduled to be held at Talala on November 2, 2009.
