Prairie State College’s (PSC) Christopher Art Gallery new exhibition ‘Intricacies’ opened this week. ‘Intricacies’ feature the works by artists Carrie Ann Schumacher, Anna Louise Pardee Lindquist, Emily Hermant, and Richard Shipps. The exhibit will run through Thursday, December 7 in the Gallery.

An artists’ reception will be held on Thursday, November 16 from noon to 2:30 p.m. Both the exhibit and reception are open to the public.

According to Gallery Director and curator of the exhibition Beth Shadur, the title ‘Intricacies’ refers to the complexity of the appearance, process and in the relationship of artist to the material used in the creation of each body of work. Emily Hermant uses many different materials in her work, building a large whole from her time-consuming process of making marks, whether with pins, string, wood or painted paper.

Anna Louise Pardee Lindquist makes works with elegant subtlety, using softened colors and materials that respond naturally to the intricacies of building an image with many layers.

Carrie Ann Schumacher creates paper dresses from the pages of romance novels, and then uses hole-punches to create an ongoing texture and pattern.

Works by Richard Shipps include imagery that has many layers. He snips and cuts to create shadows, voids and patterns within his paper.

“These artists share the process of making work that is a whole from many precise tiny parts. Each artist here responds to their specific materials to create questions that each pursue relentlessly.”

“I absolutely love this show! It is uniquely beautiful and people must see to appreciate,” said PSC President Dr. Terri L. Winfree.

The Christopher Art Gallery is open Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Wednesday and Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. Please note that the college will be closed November 23 through 26, for Thanksgiving break. The college and Gallery will resume regular hours on Monday, November 27. The Gallery may also be visited by appointment.
