University Park, IL–(ENEWSPF)–September 7, 2017— With purposeful determination to fulfill its mission and total dedication to student success, Governors State University is celebrating the start of a new academic year with a completely reimagined brand identity. While GSU’s strong commitment to its students and the communities it serves remains constant, the new brand identity more clearly defines the university’s values.

The new tagline, “Here, You Are.”, debuted in a full-page ad running in the Chicago Sun Times and The Daily Southtown on September 7 and other local publications that serve the Southland region.

The new tagline embodies the belief that GSU students, faculty, staff, and visitors are more than a title or position. Each is an individual with unique strengths, skills, and aspirations. Each deserves a university where they can reach their goals and develop new ones.

The university is embracing the position that GSU serves best as an institution where one’s passion is first and purpose is forever. This position is not new. GSU has always been that place. With the new brand identity, however, there is a recharged vehicle to better express who the university is and how it serves students and the region. This vision will be reflected on the university’s website and in print materials, as well as in informational and promotional products.

“Our new brand identity gives us an opportunity to tell our story in clear and concise terms,” said Elaine P. Maimon, president of GSU.

GSU has long been lauded for its ability to change, adapt, and serve. Since its inception in 1969, it has evolved into a world class institution providing higher education opportunities for more than 48,000 alumni—many who are first generation college students, many more who earn graduate degrees. Currently the university is a full four-year undergraduate and graduate institution with nearly 6,000 students enrolled in more than 60 academic programs. Transformations included accepting its first freshman class and opening its first on-campus student residences, as well as managing the $28 million renovation of the science and health science classrooms and labs. While the recent Illinois state budget crisis took its toll, GSU remained successful, with healthy enrollment numbers and graduation rates.
