Three Are Straight A Students Who Earned 4.0 GPAs in Eighth Grade
RICHTON PARK, IL–(ENEWSPF)–June 12, 2012– Matteson Elementary School District 162 inducted 72 members of the class of 2012 into the District’s Hall of Fame at a luncheon recently at the Holiday Inn Chicago Matteson Hotel and Conference Center.
Fifty-five of the students graduated from the O.W. Huth School, Matteson and seventeen are from the Illinois School, Park Forest, Illinois. All reside in Matteson, Olympia Fields, Richton Park, Park Forest and University Park.
All had grade point averages (GPA) of 3.0 or better during their eighth grade year.
Three of the graduates, Myles Howard, Kathy Kistner, and Christian Williams, all O.W. Huth students, earned straight As with a 4.0 grade point average (GPA) during their eighth grade year, according to Dr. Blondean Y. Davis, superintendent.
“All of our Hall of Fame members are most fortunate, for to achieve these accomplishments at this point in their young lives, they’ve had the support and encouragement of a team of parents, teachers and mentors who really believe in them. The role of a student’s mentor is most significant, for it can make the difference in the path that young people take,” said Dr. Davis.
She credited her own family’s tremendous dedication and support throughout her elementary and high school years and then during her university studies when she earned bachelor, master and doctorate degrees from Loyola University Chicago. She urged the graduates to listen and to learn from their elders who have much good advice to pass on to young people.
Dr. Davis said, “My wish for you is that as you progress with your education, you will not just succeed, but you will excel and graduate from the high school and the university of your choice.
“We fully anticipate that someday these Hall of Fame members will join the many other alumni of the 160- year old Matteson Elementary School District 162 who make significant contributions to our world in education, science, business, the arts and in life,” she said.
