Governors State University to Receive Gap Funding

University Park, IL –(ENEWSPF)–July 1, 2016.   Governors State University officials applauded Illinois lawmakers for passing legislation that will partially fund Illinois public universities and colleges until a final budget for Fiscal Year 2017 is reached later this year.

The bipartisan bill allocates 12.7 million for FY17 to Governors State University.  GSU will also be reimbursed $1.4 million for covering spring 2016 MAP funding for nearly 2000 GSU students.

Governors State University President Elaine P. Maimon expressed her appreciation to Illinois lawmakers for backing higher education, with the hope for a full resolution in the near future.

“This year has been challenging for the state of Illinois, but we are making progress,” said Dr. Maimon. “Today our state leaders came together to protect Illinois’s  state colleges and universities, and we are thankful for their efforts.  Although the appropriations bill fell short of what we need, I am hopeful that the progress made today will lead toward a long-term budget solution.”
