University Park, IL–(ENEWSPF)–February 8, 2016 – At the heart of theatre is giving back. Artists use their talents to inspire, entertain and provoke, and sometimes to help others. That’s exactly what GSU Theatre and Performance Studies (T.A.P.S.) students are doing on Valentine’s weekend for the YWCA. TAPS students will be presenting Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues on Saturday, February 13 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in Sherman Hall on campus.
The award-winning play is based on Eve Ensler’s interviews with over 200 women. With humor and grace, the piece celebrates women’s sexuality and strength. For nearly two decades, The Vagina Monologues has brought awareness to the conversation of ending violence against women and girls. All proceeds will benefit the YWCA and South Suburban Family Shelter.
GSU’s T.A.P.S. Program Director Patrick Santoro says, “Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues is our first student directed TAPS production. As a department, we are committed to producing works that both entertain and inform, works that explore our current social, cultural, and political landscape. The cast and crew are working diligently, and we are both proud and inspired by their commitment to producing this important work, one we know the audience (both women and men) will enjoy.”
The production is co-directed by Misturat Ganiyu and Lois Nemeth, both GSU students. Cast members include students and GSU staff and faculty from all over the south suburbs:
