University Park, Illinois—(ENEWSPF)–September 8, 2017 – In celebration of National Recovery Month, the Governors State University Addictions Studies Alumni Club will sponsor their sixth annual Walk for Recovery on Saturday, September 16, 2017, at Governors State University.
The Walk for Recovery is designed to honor individuals in recovery or who are seeking recovery. The event also celebrates the treatment and support service providers who are committed to helping them, and to increasing awareness surrounding addiction issues.
This free event begins with registration from 8 to 9 a.m., followed by a program at 9 a.m. The two or three-mile walk (optional) will commence at 10 a.m. In addition, a resource fair featuring many organizations in the fields of addictions recovery will be open from 8 a.m. to noon.
Featured at the 9 a.m. program will be the following speakers:
- Peter Palanca, Governors State University Professor and Immediate Past Executive Vice President and COO of Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities (TASC, Inc.), who will serve as Master of Ceremonies;
- Congressman Danny K. Davis, who, in addition to his public service, has had productive careers as an educator, community organizer, health planner/administrator, and civil rights advocate
The event will also feature door prizes, refreshments, music and entertainment. This event is generously sponsored by Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities (TASC, Inc.), the South Suburban Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse, the Illinois Certification Board (IAODAPCA), Stepping Stones, Elite Treatment Center, Walt’s Finer Foods, Chicago Dough Richton Park, Aurelio’s Crete, and Sunrise Greenhouses, among others.
