Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)– A team of students in a sixth grade honors class at Park Forest-Chicago Heights School District 163’s Forest Trail Middle Grade Center ranked first in the region among fourth through eighth grade students in the Capitol Challenge of the national Stock Market Game. The students included Elysia Sawyers, Diamond Calicott and Bailey Scher.

Using a hypothetical $100,000, teams of students in the class invested in stocks and mutual funds on the New York Stock Exchange, American Stock Exchange and Nasdaq, tracked each investment’s performance and determined how much commission they paid on their transactions. The online game is a program of the Foundation for Investor Excellence Education.

Prior to embarking on the competition, the students studied the stock market with their teacher Liz Pigusch, researched and evaluated stocks, and then each student selected a stock and tracked it for a week. Math skills came into play as they determined the price per share of the stocks and the amount of the commission fees. The students then formed teams to compete in the Capitol Challenge. A second team involved in the Challenge included Resean Hyligar, Frederick Lindsay, Meridith Embry, and Gillian Elmore.
