CHICAGO HEIGHTS–(ENEWSPF)–October 1, 2015. Prairie State College students residing in the Villages of Crete and Sauk Village now have a new scholarship opportunity thanks to a generous donation by the Enbridge Energy Company. The Enbridge Company announced the new Enbridge Pipeline Awareness Scholarship at a ceremony held Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015 at Prairie State College’s (PSC) board room located at the main campus at 202 S. Halsted St. in Chicago Heights.
“PSC students from Sauk Village and Crete interested in pursuing manufacturing will now have new scholarship opportunities thanks to this donation,” Dr. Terri L. Winfree, president of PSC said.
The announcement was made to a room full of Cook and Will County elected officials, including Larry Walsh, Will County Executive. “Enbridge is a tremendous supporter of manufacturing in our area. These scholarships have the potential to provide education and training and allow students to pursue manufacturing fields. They allow PSC the opportunity to reach out to Crete and Sauk Village residents,” Walsh said.
Toni Preckwinkle’s office was represented by Martha Martinez, Cook County Chief Administrative Officer, who agreed on what a great opportunity this scholarship provides to students. “President Preckwinkle is committed to economic development and is grateful to Enbridge for investing in our youth.”
The check was presented to PSC by John Gauderman, director, Chicago Region for Enbridge. “Enbridge is committed to being a good neighbor by offering opportunities for learning. PSC will do a great job for the community by providing scholarships for excellent students,” Gauderman said.
State Representative Elgie Sims, Jr., thanked both Enbridge and PSC for developing the partnership. “This partnership will help both communities and offer students a means for gainful employment.”
Crete Village President Mike Eihorn also was enthusiastic about this new venture stating the partnership will benefit students in both Crete and Sauk Village.
Dante Sawyer, district representative for U.S. Representative Robin Kelly was present for the check presentation, along with representatives from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission, and a representative from State Representative Marcus Evans’ office.
Deborah Smith Havighorst, executive director of the PSC Foundation stressed how much this donation will help provide additional opportunities for students from Crete and Sauk Village who are interested in pursuing careers in manufacturing.
After the presentation the guests toured PSC education and training facilities.
