Economic Education Opportunities for Educators


Chicago Heights, IL-(ENEWSPF)- The office of Economic Education at Governors State University is sponsoring professional development opportunities for educators in the south suburban region. Teachers will learn how to incorporate economics education into the classroom curriculum and how it enhances important ski8lls and coincides with mandated learning outcomes.

The Stock Market Game workshop will be offered on October 5, from 1 to 5 p.m. The Stock Market Game is an on-line investing simulation for students in grades five through 12 sponsored by the Illinois Office of Economic Education. There is no fee to participate in the Stock Market Game or the workshop. Teachers who have never used the Stock Market Game as an economic education tool are invited to attend the workshop at the workshop at Governors State University. Refreshments will be served. CPDUs are available.

Teachers of grades six through 12 are invited to attend the annual meeting of the Council for Economic Education at the Westin Hotel in Chicago on Oct. 13 to 15.  On Thursday, Oct. 13, the GSU Office of Economic Education will host a conference featuring information about the European economy, from 9 a.m. to noon. Illinois educators are eligible for a special one-day registration fee of only $40 and are encouraged to attend on October 13.

The Office of Economic Education at GSU is sponsoring “Real World Learning,” a series of day-long workshops focusing on ways to apply skills in Reading and Math to topics in economics and financial literacy. The first workshop is Nov. 19. There is no charge for these workshops. CPDUs and stipends are available.
