Meet Deanna Eaton:
Are you a Park Forest Resident? How long? Yes, I have been a Park Forest resident for 11 years.
At Rich East all four years? No. My freshman year I went to Bloom Trail High School. Then I came to Rich East.
What do you like the most about Rich East? The people. I can truly say that I gained some great friends while at East.
Favorite classes and why? This year, my favorite class is Forensics. I like watching the crime television shows and seeing how they solve the cases. In the past, my favorite class was French. I liked being able to talk a language that not many other people knew (Spanish is also very popular at East).
Favorite teachers and why: Ms. (Sherrie) Towery: She is very down-to-earth and easy to talk to. She is one of the “cool” teachers; Mr. (Dwayne) Sanders: He is a very dedicated band director and always wants the best for us.
GPA/Class Rank: My overall GPA is 3.849 and my class rank in 10th/203.
ACT: I received a 26 on the ACT.
Areas met or exceeded on PSAE: Math and Reading.
AP Exams: English Composition. I scored a 3.
What are you listening to on your iPod these days? A lot of rap and R & B. It really doesn’t matter the genre, as long as the beat is good and the song is catchy.
What is the last book you have read? The last book I have read was “Things Fall Apart,” by Chinua Achebe. I had to read it for AP Literature.
Favorite TV Shows: I watch so many shows it’s hard to choose. I mostly watch reality shows for the drama.
Places that you’d most like to visit: I would love to visit Paris. I took French and really liked the culture. Also, I would like to visit Los Angeles and live like a celebrity for a week … maybe longer!
Activities/Athletics/Clubs participated in/Special awards: Two Green and Gold Apple Awards, Illinois State Scholar, National Honor Society, French National Honor Society, Senior Class Treasurer, Best Buddies, and last but certainly not least, the Rich East Marching Band Majorettes.
Clubs, hobbies, community/church. Special volunteering in community. This school year, I was able to help a lot in Park Forest. I helped with the “Welcome to Park Forest” Pool Party as well as the Safe Halloween campaign. My favorite had to be when I helped with the Park Forest Idle competition.
College choice/Major: I am happy to say that I will be attending Howard University in Washington, D.C. this fall. At the moment I plan to major in Biology. However, I think I may change my major to communication science disorders where I can study audiology.
Where do you want to be in five years/In ten years? In five years, I hope to have graduated from Howard University. I really hope that the job market gets better so that after college I can stay in my career with no delays. Ultimately, I just want to be happy with whatever I am doing in life. I definitely see myself living life to the fullest!!!
