CHICAGO HEIGHTS—(ENEWSPF)—September 8, 2014. A new name and a better sound will soon be what the Prairie State College (PSC) Conference Center auditorium is known for. Thanks to a generous donation to the PSC Foundation from Barnes & Noble College, the PSC Auditorium is getting a new state-of-the-art sound system. In recognition of this donation, it will be renamed the Barnes & Noble College Auditorium.
According to PSC President Dr. Terri Winfree, Barnes & Noble College has been an outstanding partner to PSC for many years.
“When the decision was made to look for an outside company for a donation to purchase the sound system, Barnes & Noble College was the first company we approached. They have been a terrific supporter of the college and our students for many years. The auditorium will now be known as the Barnes & Noble College Auditorium in recognition of their support,” she said.
For many years the sound system was less than adequate. The new enhancements to the sound system will bring the college into compliance with current standards set by the Federal Communications Commission that controls use of the radio spectrum.
The college will have a concert-quality sound system for entertainment, workshops, lectures, and symposiums. The microphone system will include lapel, hand-held and headsets, allowing more flexibility for stage productions, panel discussions and lectures. Better quality and more powerful speakers and amplifiers will reduce distortion and fill the room with a higher quality sound.
Students enrolled in audio production courses will have updated equipment for class recording projects, including a digital mixing console and stage monitors. Multimedia presentations using PowerPoint or online videos from computers will be louder, clearer and more dynamic with high-definition clarity provided by a Blu-Ray player and high-definition LCD projection system. A new Crestron control system will also provide access to all playback devices from the booth or the stage area, and control video switching between input sources.
“We’ve been a proud partner of Prairie State College for over 20 years,” said Max J. Roberts, CEO of Barnes & Noble College. “So it gives us great pleasure to be a sponsor of the PSC Auditorium in the Conference Center and support the continued success of Prairie State students and the local Chicago Heights community.”
