Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)- eNews Park Forest continues with our series of stellar students from Rich East High School. Mr. Kevin Kredens, the school’s publicity liaison, provides each student a series of the same questions. All responses are in the students’ exact words, except for minor editing for content and space when needed.

We are pleased to feature Ashley Peters, currently eighth in her class, received a 30 on the ACT, and will be attending North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University for Bioengineering in the fall.

Meet Ashley Peters:

Are you a Park Forest Resident? How long?  Yes, I am. I’ve lived here my whole life.

At Rich East all four years? Yes to that, too.

What do you like the most about Rich East? I like that the teachers are really all about the students. If someone is struggling and they’re really, genuinely trying, they the teachers will do whatever necessary to help them. They want to see students succeed and enjoy school and that’s important.

Favorite classes and why?  Well right now, I really enjoy my Biology class because I am a total biology nerd, but I love all of my AP classes (Biology, Calculus and Psychology). Even though I hate Math, I really enjoy my Calculus class. I don’t even know why, I just do.

Favorite teachers/coaches and why. My favorite teachers are Ms. (Gloria) Holman and Ms. (Stephanie) Tijerina because they not only cared about me as a student, but also as a person. My favorite coach is Mr. (Patrick) Haaker, head tennis coach. He kinda brought me out of my shell.

GPA/Class Rank.  My overall GPA is 3.904 and my class rank in 8th/203.

ACT: I received a 30 on my ACT.

Areas met or exceeded on PSAE.  Met in all areas of the PSAE, exceeded in Reading. Exceeded in all WorkKeys.

AP Exams:  I’ve taken the AP English and AP United States History exams. I got a 4 on the first and bombed the second (oops!). Oh, I also took the AP Studio Art exam and received a 3.

What are you listening to on your iPod these days? Rise Against, Florence and the Machine, Jimmy Eat World, A Fine Frenzy, In This Moment, Bullet For My Valentine, Panic!, At The Disco, The Fray, Breaking  Benjamin, … I could go on!

What is the last book you have read? Oh man, I don’t remember. I’ve read so many. I think that it was ‘Entwined,” a new take on my favorite fairytale, “The Twelve Dancing Princesses.”

Favorite TV Shows: I don’t really watch much TV, honestly, but (not going to lie) I do indulge in some “My Little Pony.” Everything else, I just happen to catch whenever it’s on. I won’t pass up an opportunity to watch a good fight, though!

Places that you’d most like to visit. In the world: Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Ireland, and Japan. In the United States: Maine and New York.

Activities/Athletics/Clubs  participated in/Special awards: I was the captain of my varsity tennis team this year and that’s about it for senior year, that’s about all for senior year, besides National Honor Society. (Previously I’ve been in Speech, GSA, Thespians and Softball).

Clubs, hobbies, community volunteering:   I enjoy writing and MMA in my spare time, and I work at a little café called “The Richton Perk Café” that I really love. I don’t really volunteer places, but I like to help my neighbors when they need a hand.

College choice/Major: I will be attending North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University for Bioengineering. I hope to into genetic engineering, specifically.

Where do you want to be in five years/In ten years? In five years, I want to have started my career and embarked on getting my masters. And, in 10 years, I’d like to be living in Italy with my boy-&-best friend Stephen (with a real kitchen in my house, an Oriental pepper plant on the window sill. These are very crucial details. ha! ha!)
