Residents Brave Ice to Share Holiday Warmth

Park Forest, IL—(ENEWSPF)— The Village Green did not earn its name from Decembers in Park Forest. Over 100 residents braved the aftermath of the season’s first ice storm to gather on frozen sidewalks and crisp frozen lawns Saturday evening for the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. Entertained by a very energetic performance by the Rich East Band and wonderful Christmas Carols performed by the Grand Prairie Singers, the crowd waited in anticipation for the arrival of Santa Claus.

While adults took tenuous steps on the ice, many of the children in attendance thoroughly enjoyed the thick layer of slick ice that covered sidewalks in the DownTown. However, even the Jolly Elf himself avoided the ice, choosing to make his entrance along the canopied sidewalk near Tall Grass Arts Association. St. Nick arrived just in time to lead the crowd in a countdown, and the crowd watched as trees decorated by local schools, clubs and organizations came to light.

More pictures from the ceremony are available in the eNews Park Forest photo store.
