Representative Kelly, State Lawmakers Meet with US Transportation Secretary to Tout Third Airport

Group Urges FAA and U.S. DOT to Expedite Review of Airport Plans

ILLINOIS—(ENEWSPF)—February 11, 2014. U.S. Congresswoman Robin Kelly and a group of Illinois officials today met with U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx to express their strong support for the South Suburban Airport and to urge federal officials to expedite final approval of the project.

“Chicago needs a third airport. The FAA wants it. The governor wants it. Elected officials from Cook and Will counties want it. And most of all, the people want it,” Congresswoman Kelly said after the meeting.

“A group of local leaders joined me today to assure Secretary Foxx that there’s strong local support for a third airport. This project will help maintain America’s pre-eminence in aviation and strengthen our area’s role in the global economy for decades to come,” Rep. Kelly said. “Today is significant. Leaders from Chicago, south Cook and Will County came together to urge the federal government to build a south suburban airport and help create jobs in our region.”

Joining Kelly at the meeting with Secretary Foxx were: Federal Aviation Administration Deputy Administrator Michael Whitaker, state Reps. Will Davis, Anthony DeLuca, Al Riley, Marcus Evans and Larry Walsh Jr.; state Senators Toi Hutchinson and Jacqueline Collins, and Ed Paesel, executive director of the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association.
