WASHINGTON, DC –(ENEWSPF)–November 16, 2015. Representative Jan Schakowsky released the following statement in response to the terrorist attacks in Paris:
“I am horrified by the events in Paris that have killed at least 129 people and injured more than 300. My heart goes out to the people of Paris in this terrible time. All Americans can relate to their anguish, and, like all civilized people, are experiencing our own sense of vulnerability
Now is clearly the time for the nations of the world to come together in a global effort to combat ISIS. The meeting between President Obama and the leaders of Britain, Germany, Italy and the foreign minister of France earlier today is a good first step.
As we now consider enhanced national security strategies here at home, we should make, as a top priority, reducing the easy availability of the kinds of weapons that can and have been used in mass shootings. A now dead terrorist called on would-be American recruits in a video to take advantage of the easy access to such weapons to commit acts of terror. If we are to address violence, terrorism and security at home, we must enact sensible gun safety laws.
These attacks by ISIS are not representative of Islam or of the Muslim American community. It is crucial at this time that, we come together as a nation, across all religions and cultures to stand with the people of France in this difficult time.”
