Representative Jan Schakowsky Statement in Response to President’s Speech on ISIS

Washington, D.C. –(ENEWSPF)—September 11, 2014. Rep. Jan Schakowsky released the following statement after President Barack Obama’s address Wednesday night regarding the United States response to the threat posed by Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS):

“President Obama demonstrated clear leadership last night when he laid out a strong framework for eliminating the threat ISIS poses to security and stability throughout the Middle East and beyond.

I am pleased with the President’s deliberate response to this crisis; his insistence on building a strong international coalition, his strong actions to protect religious minorities whose entire existence is threatened by ISIS and his Administration’s continued commitment to strongly pursue political solutions to this conflict within Iraq.  The President reiterated that any additional American troops will not have a combat role on the ground.

As a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, I deeply appreciate the Administration’s outreach to me and other members of Congress on this issue, and I look forward to the opportunity to further collaborate with my colleagues to meet the ISIS threat in a responsible and effective manner.”
