Park Forest, IL—(ENEWSPF)— Registration is now open for the Park Forest Scenic 5 and more… The annual race has been reconstituted onto a new 5 mile course and augmented with a 5 mile family bike ride on the same course, a 5K nature walk around the Central Park Wetlands and include a variety of other activities at the Park Forest Aqua Center and Central Park Area.

The 5 mile race gets underway at 8:00 am at the corner of Main Street and Orchard Drive. Runners will enjoy scores of musical acts and cheers from locals along the route that takes them down Orchard Drive, North Street, Old Plank Road Trail, Homan Avenue, Illinois Street and back to Orchard for the finish at the Park Forest Aqua Center. The children’s race follows at 9:30 am.

According to organizers for the day’s events, the race course is fast and flat, beginning in DownTown and cruising past the 90 acre Central Park/Wetlands. At 1.5 miles, runners will dive onto the straight, flat and shaded Old Plank Road Bike Trail for another 1.5 miles then onto the curving streets of Park Forest. The home stretch will be Orchard Dr, passing under the Trail – the only significant hills on the course – and finish at Central Park and home of the Village’s 4-Pool Aquatics Complex. Runners are free to jump in after the race.

This course is a CARA Circuit Race, a Gold Cup Series Race and will be certified by USA Track and Field.

The cost for the 5 mile race is $27 through August 1st. After August 1st, the cost will be $32. The entry fee for the children’s race is $10. Runners are encouraged to register online, where a $2 registration discount is available, at http://www.signmeup.com/60224. To register in-person or by mail, entry forms must be turned into the Recreation & Parks Department, located in Village Hall, by August 25th. No race day registration will be available.
