The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced today that it will host a public meeting to share updates and collect feedback on proposed changes to the Interstate 55 managed lanes project. IDOT has recently updated the project plans to include a second managed lane in each direction of I-55 between Interstate 294 (Tri-State Tollway) and Interstate 90/94 (Dan Ryan Expressway).

The meeting will be in an open-house format and will be held on Wednesday, December 6 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Toyota Park Stadium Club, 7000 Harlem Avenue in Bridgeview.

Exhibits will be on display and an audio-visual presentation will be shown continuously during the meeting. Project team members will be available to discuss the project and answer questions. Written comments can be submitted at the meeting, mailed afterward or submitted via the project website www.i55managedlaneproject.org.

The meeting will be accessible to individuals with disabilities. Anyone needing specific assistance should contact Leisa Niemotka of Images, Inc., at 630-510-3944, ext. 115. Persons planning to attend who will need a sign language interpreter or other similar accommodations should notify the TTY/TTD number 800-526-0844 or 711; TTY users (Español) 800-501-0864 or 711; and for Telebraille dial 877-526-6670 at least five days prior to the meeting.

The state of Illinois received federal approval in 2016 to build one managed lane in each direction of I-55 between Interstate 355 near Bolingbrook to I-90/94 in Chicago. The revised project proposes to add the second managed lane north of the Tri-State Tollway within the existing IDOT right of way.

It is believed that this additional capacity will make it easier to maintain consistent, reliable speeds and travel times for all I-55 users. It should be noted that no funding has been identified for construction, but IDOT is continuing to pursue the project as a public-private partnership.
