Park Forest Police Report – February 9, 2009


A washer and a dryer were reported stolen from a residence in the 400 block of Niagara Street on January 29.

A juvenile was arrested on January 30 and charged with aggravated battery to a school employee when an officer working as a liaison officer at Rich East High School was asked to go to a hall where students were gathered after the class bell had rung. The juvenile allegedly shoved the teacher out of the way to go around him, according to police.

Police were dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of East Sycamore Drive on January 31 to investigate a report of a domestic disturbance. There were no arrests.

Nathaniel Jackson, 40, 29 Apache St., Park Forest, was arrested on January 31 and charged with operating a motor vehicle with only one headlamp, resisting a peace officer, and felony driving with license revoked when an officer traveling east on Arrowhead Street at Allegheny Street observed that the vehicle Jackson was driving had only one headlamp, according to police.

Tammar L. Schaeffer, 38, 111 Sycamore Dr., Park Forest, was arrested on January 31 and charged with failure to signal when required, no rear registration light, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, driving with an expired driver’s license, obstruction, and possession of cannabis, when an officer on patrol traveling eastbound on Indianwood Boulevard observed the vehicle Schaeffer was driving allegedly turn onto Orchard Drive without using a turn signal.

Officer Shulman and K-9 Brix were dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of Interocean Avenue to assist the South Chicago Heights Police Department with a drug search of a residence. Upon entering the residence, K-9 Brix alerted by scratching and biting at a safe lying open on the floor, a positive indication for narcotics, according to police. Officer Shulman later learned that some suspect cannabis was recovered from inside the safe, according to police.

Two juveniles were arrested on February 1 and charged with criminal trespass to real property and criminal damage to property when police were dispatched to Family Dollar Store, 108 South Orchard Dr., in reference to a report of two unwanted subjects. According to police, the two juveniles had been told that they were not allowed to return to the store. A window on the glass entrance door had been broken two nights previous to this incident, according to police. The juveniles allegedly told police they broke the window, according to police.

A vehicle parked in the 100 block of North Arbor Trail was shot numerous times with what appeared to be a BB gun on February 2, causing several dents on the body of the vehicle. It also had a hole in the windshield.

Officer DeVries and K-9 Tobi responded to a residence on February 2 in the 4500 block of Heartland Drive in Richton Park to assist police in a narcotics search of the vehicle. Officer DeVries brought K-9 Tobi to the vehicle and gave him the command to search for narcotics. The K-9 positively alerted to a purse which was sitting on the front passenger seat. Officer Gericke of the Richton Park Police Department searched the purse and recovered $3295 in United States currency and several loose hydrocodone pills, according to police.

Lamond Rucker, 23, 9028 S. East End Ave., Chicago, was arrested on February 2 and charged with one felony count of obstructing justice, one felony count of criminal damage to state supported property, and resisting a peace officer when detectives were dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of Titonka Street to investigate a 911 hang-up call. Rucker was also processed on an active arrest warrant out of Chicago charging violation of an order of protection.

Police were dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of Onarga Street on February 3 to investigate a theft of a “Lil Rascal” power scooter. Police continue to investigate.

Walter J. Lynch, 44, 2518 E. 221st St., Sauk Village, was arrested on February 3 and charged with criminal trespass to real property when police were dispatched to Bixby’s, 22309 S. Central Park Ave., to investigate a report of trespass.

A 14-year-old juvenile was arrested on February 4 and charged with disorderly conduct and aggravated assault when an officer was dispatched to Rich East High School to investigate a report of aggravated assault. According to police, the juvenile allegedly began singing in a classroom and banging drumsticks on the desk. The teacher told him to stop, and he allegedly did not stop. The student then allegedly said he would bring a Desert Eagle to school and shoot the teacher, according to police. According to police, he then said he was kidding, and allegedly said that he would bring an Uzi to school instead.

A stainless steel refrigerator valued at $1000, a stainless steel stove valued at $700, a washing machine valued at $600, a dryer valued at $600, a hot water heater valued at $800, an air-conditioner valued at $3000, a furnace valued at $3000, and a steel door valued at $300 were reported stolen from a residence in the 200 block of Sauk Trail on February 4.

Michael L. Reed, 18, 518 Chase St., Park Forest, was arrested on February 4 and charged with two felony counts of possession of cannabis with the intent to deliver. Officer Kessler, working as a liaison officer at Rich East High School was informed that someone had allegedly witnessed a hand-to-hand drug transaction at the school. A juvenile was also arrested and charged with possession and delivery of cannabis, according to police.

Steven M. Austin, 38, 15228 Loomis Ave., Harvey, was arrested on February 4 and charged with one felony charge of possession of a controlled substance, no front registration plate, no rear registration light, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, revoked driver’s license, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia when officers on patrol, on Arrowhead Street at Allegheny Street, observed the vehicle Austin was driving had no front registration plate and no rear registration light, according to police.

Miguel F. Rasado, 23, 8925 S. Escanaba Ave., Chicago, was arrested on February 5 and charged with no rear registration light, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, expired driver’s license, obstructed windshield, and possession of cannabis when officers on patrol traveling southbound on Western Avenue observed the vehicle Rasado was driving had no rear registration light and observed the vehicle’s front windshield was obstructed by items hanging from the rearview mirror, according to police.

The rear driver-side window of a vehicle parked in the first block of McCarthy Street was reported shattered on February 5.

An officer was dispatched to the Park Forest Police Department on February 5 to investigate a threat via e-mail. Police continue to investigate.

A juvenile was arrested on February 5 and charged in connection with a report of battery when police responded to the Park Forest Police Department to speak with a complainant in reference to a report of battery.

Two juveniles were arrested on February 6 and issued municipal tickets charging disorderly conduct when police were dispatched to the area near Willow and Westwood Streets in reference to a report of two subjects fighting.
