Park Forest, IL-(ENEWSPF)- For the 24th consecutive year, the Village of Park Forest has won the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). Christina N. Fisher of the City of Markham was on hand to make the formal presentation to Finance Director Mark Pries and Mayor John Ostenburg.
“I’m pleased to say this is not the first time that the Village of Park Forest has received this honor,” Ms. Fisher said. “Rather, today’s presentation marks the 23rd and 24th consecutive years — that is very commendable — that the Village of Park Forest has received this Distinguished Budget Presentation Award.”
“Such a record reflects the professionalism and commitment of numerous individuals as well as many hours of hard work,” Ms. Fisher continued. “It also reflects a high degree of dedication and leadership on the part of Mayor Ostenburg and the Board of Trustee.”
Ms. Fisher expressed hope that honoring Park Forest would “serve as an example and encourage others to strive for the same high standards in their own budgets.”
Director Pries called receiving the award “a group effort,” crediting the “very strong leadership of the board.” He also expressed his gratitude to department heads “because each department does provide quite a bit of information as well as support in producing the budget every year.”
The budget, past budgets, audits, past audits, and other documents can be found here on the Village website. The current budget is 557 pages long and includes background material and exhaustive information on the history of Park Forest, the history and current status and needs of each department, as well as detailed descriptions of why and where monies are allocated for various projects and funds. Whether a reader prefers narrative, graphs, or tables of data, the budget explains the finances of the Village in incredible detail.
The awards were for fiscal years 2018 and 2019.
