CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–December 5, 2011. All week, join climate justice actions! Protest outside the Board of Trade with local farmers, rally in bank actions against Bank of America, march against local coal plants Crawford and Fisk, and more!
The Grassroots Global Justice Alliance is calling for a Global Week of Action for Climate Justice! Climate change resulting from industry-caused pollution has already begun to ruin farm production, cause freak storms, harm human health, and is causing many more issues. Right now COP17 (or United Nations Conference of Parties), is meeting in Durban, South Africa. COP17 is being hijacked by transnational corporations and governments presenting false solutions to climate change, such as carbon trading, genetically modified seed, Reduce Emissions From Deforestation & Forest Degradation, and other pitches that put profits before people and planet.
In response to COP17 and as part of this global week of action Occupy Chicago will be participating in a number of events:
CARBON TRADING RALLY
Monday, Dec. 4th, 12:00PM to 2:00PM
Chicago Board of Trade
Speak-Out Against Carbon Traders with Family Farm Defenders, urban gardeners, Rising Tide, and other groups. Small farmers, urban gardeners, and their community allies will be protesting the carbon trading that takes place at CBoT and calling out the “Dirty Dozen” (including Exxonmobil) who are profiting from false climate change solutions. We will also be supporting local agriculture and other true solutions.

BANK OF AMERICA ACTION

Join a Rainforest Action Network action against Bank of America and their support for coal. A well know “special guest” will be attending. More information on this to come.

P.E.R.R.O. press conference, speakers, and march against the coal plants whose toxic emissions kill 42 Chicagoans a year. We will march from Pilsen to Occupy Chicago headquarters, and then to Midwest Generation headquarters (owners of Crawford and Fisk).
We strongly encourage you to get involved in these actions. Show COP 17 and the 1% that they cannot destroy our planet and hurt not just the 99%, but all creatures on it, with climate changing, profit driven greed.
